Job description

​As a Process Technician, you will work as part of a dedicated team responsible for processing and refining lead from raw materials into finished products. You will be assigned to a specific department within the plant, which may include:

  • Smelter

  • Refinery

  • Battery Breaker

  • Rolling Mill

This role requires operating machinery, monitoring processes, conducting quality checks, and maintaining a safe and clean working environment.

Department Responsibilities1. Smelter

  • Operate computer systems to charge furnaces.

  • Drive a front-end loader to weigh and load materials into the hopper.

  • Conduct general housekeeping, including sweeping and shovelling.

  • Clean afterburn chambers using a DI-SAB vacuum unit.

  • Use overhead cranes to transport molten lead to the refinery.

  • Operate forklifts to move bins and weigh materials.

2. Refinery

  • Maintain general cleanliness through sweeping and shovelling.

  • Operate forklifts to move and weigh materials.

  • Add chemicals to the refining process as instructed.

  • Use cranes to move products as needed.

  • Sample and test process materials.

3. Battery Breaker

  • Operate computer-controlled processing systems.

  • Conduct general housekeeping, including sweeping and shovelling.

  • Sample and test process materials.

  • Operate forklifts to move and weigh materials.

4. Rolling Mill

  • Operate production equipment, including setup and first-off inspections.

  • Monitor machine operations to ensure quality control.

  • Complete production and quality documentation.

  • Use cranes to move products and install mill coils and slabs.

  • Perform general housekeeping duties.

Shift Patterns

Rolling Mill

  • 8-hour rotating shifts:

    Mornings, Afternoons, Nights

  • Holiday:

    20 days annual leave + 8 bank holidays

  • Bank Holiday Work: Paid at

    double time

    +

    day off in lieu

Production (Other Department)

  • Continental Shift Pattern: 12-hour shifts

  • 4 on / 4 off

  • 18-day rest period during summer

  • 4 on / 6 off

    rotation

  • Bank Holiday Work: Paid at

    double time
