Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager
South Wales
Candour Talent are proud to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established company in South Wales for a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional to take full ownership of HSE strategy, compliance, and culture across a busy operational environment.
The Role
As the HSE Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the company's health, safety, and environmental strategy. You'll lead by example, driving a proactive safety culture and ensuring regulatory compliance at all times. You'll also oversee environmental permits and manage the Health & Safety Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement company-wide HSE policies and strategies
Lead ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 implementation and compliance
Manage environmental permits across all operational sites
Conduct risk assessments, site audits, toolbox talks and safety inspections
Support and mentor staff with training and day-to-day HSE advice
Promote and embed a positive, proactive safety culture across the organisation
Lead investigations for incidents and near-misses, delivering corrective action plans
Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure legal compliance is maintained
Provide HSE reporting and performance updates to senior management
Review and update emergency response procedures
Deliver hands-on, site-focused HSE engagement including walkarounds and practical support
Objectives & KPIs
Deliver measurable improvement in HSE engagement across staff
Lead the introduction and embedding of ISO 14001 & 45001 standards
Key indicators will include LTIFR, near miss reporting, and incident resolution timelines
Skills & Experience Required
At least 5 years post-qualification experience in an HSE leadership role
Strong working knowledge of ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 standards
Proven experience in environmental permitting and compliance
Confident communicator with the ability to engage and influence at all levels
A hands-on, proactive approach to safety culture and operations
Experience in internal audits, risk assessments, and incident investigation
People management skills and a collaborative leadership style
Qualifications (One or more required)
NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety
NVQ Level 5 in Occupational Safety & Health Practice
NCRQ Level 6 Diploma in Applied Health & Safety
NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management
Degree (or higher) in a relevant HSE discipline
Other Requirements
Full UK Driving Licence (essential)
